Healthy Eating for Early Years

What are your favourite food when you are little? Do you still like it now? Interestingly many of our food preferences as adults are linked to childhood. In this theme we think about how best to meet children's individual nutritional needs and how you might play in promoting healthy eating. 

What is Healthy eating?

The term "healthy eating" is frequently used, so it is worth investigating what it actually means. Eating a variety of foods ensures that the child receives the nutrients he or she requires for normal growth, such as protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins, and minerals. Strategies to encourage healthy eating

Teaching children the habits of following healthy diet is as important as modelling these behavior’s in ourselves. Healthy eating habits provide children with the necessary nutrients they need to grow and develop in a healthy life style. Some researchers say that eating healthily in early childhood can affect children’s food preferences in adulthood.
