WATERMELON TORN PAPER CRAFT

Watermelon Craft
Looking for some fun watermelon crafts to keep the little one occupied this summer? You're in luck! This "watermelon Torn Paper Craft" is the perfect summer activity.

Watermelon torn paper craft activity is a hands-on very simple summer craft, but it entertains for a while because children has to take the time to rip up all of the paper pieces first.

Appropriate age: 2- 3 years
Number of children: Individual activity/ group of 4 children
Play based learning: Creative play
Learning areas: Cognitive Development, physical development(fine motor skills) Language Development, Creative play
Vocabulary: watermelon, red, green, tear, paste
Materials Needed:
  • Red/pink and green colour paper
  • Black paint
  • shape of a watermelon slice on white paper
  • Glue
Direction of Activity:
  1. First encourage the child rip up the pieces of green and pink/red paper into small pieces. They probably won’t need too much encouragement! Once all the paper was torn, we had a pile of red/pink and green.
  2. Next, after the paper is torn, the students sort the paper by colour. Small baskets can be very helpful at containing all the tiny paper pieces. Not only does sorting the paper make the project easier to complete, it also provides some practice in colour recognition.
  3. Now it’s time to create the watermelon! Give glue stick and let the child paste the pieces of red/pink and green inside the slice to form a watermelon. We will finish this fun and hands-on watermelon craft with some fingerprints to represent the seeds. Carefully dipping the index finger into washable black paint, “seeds” were then dabbed all over the watermelon.

Looks good enough to eat! (Please don’t eat the paper. However, real watermelon for snack is a great treat!)

As an early childhood practitioner, you will frequently come across the term "assessment". Assessment is part of early years practitioners' day-to-day interactions with children. In the early years, assessment is the process of gathering information about a child, analyzing that information, and then using the information to arrange educational activities that are at the level of the child and also benefit the child. EYP continually makes judgments about children's learning and development and uses the information they gather to help children to progress. Children, too, make judgments about what they are good at, what they enjoy doing, what they can do now with little help, and what they would like to be able to do in the future. “ Assessment plays an important part in helping parents, carers and practitioners to recognise children’s progress, understand their needs, and to plan activities and support. “ EYFS Framework 2024, section 2.1, page 19 The most common types of assessment are formative and summative. As a preschool teacher, you might be familiar with these terms but still need clarification about how they work.
